Choosing the right extension cord for small appliances involves comparing the American Wire Gauge (AWG) of the cord, the amp rating, the watt limit, the length, the grounding, and the jacket material of the extension cord to the appliance. In general, a longer extension cord or too thin an extension cord is likely to add resistance to the current flow.
